Starting March 12, we’re launching a 12-week Running Club designed for everyday people — especially beginners — who want a clear plan, steady progress, and a supportive group environment.

The optional goal is to prepare for the 5K at the Ancaster Mill Run on June 2. You do not have to participate in the race to join the club. The race is simply a motivating milestone for those who want one.


Who This Program Is Perfect For
  • Beginners who have never run a 5K

  • Walkers ready to transition into jogging

  • Members returning after time away from running

  • Anyone who needs accountability and a weekly commitment

You do not need to “be a runner” to start. That’s what the program is for.


How It Works
  • 12 weeks of progressive, structured training

  • One coached group run per week

  • Routes through Spring Valley conservation area and local open fields

  • Gradual build in endurance and confidence

  • Supportive pacing — no one gets left behind

The club is hosted by fellow Heron Creek member Michelle Rutledge, who brings enthusiasm, encouragement, and a welcoming spirit that makes beginners feel comfortable from day one.

Why Join a Club Instead of Training Alone?

Most people quit not because they can’t do it — but because they try to do it alone.

A weekly meet-up creates:

  • Built-in accountability

  • Social motivation

  • Consistency

  • A shared goal

  • Momentum that carries into the rest of your week

Spring is the ideal time to build a new habit. Lighter evenings, fresh air, and a clear finish line on the calendar.

How do I sign up?

If you are an annual member, drop by the reception desk or call us at 905-648-4571 and we'll get you signed up.


Information Session

Monday, March 2 at 7:30pm in The Loft at Heron Creek


If you’re even considering it, attend the information session.

You’ll learn:

  • What a typical week looks like

  • How beginners are supported

  • What to expect in the first month

  • How to balance this with your current training

Click “Attend the Information Session” to reserve your seat and receive a reminder email.

Even if you’re unsure — come ask questions. That’s what the session is for.


Important: Club Registration and Race Registration Are Separate

Registering for the Running Club does not register you for the race.

If you choose to participate in the Ancaster Mill Run 5K, race registration is handled separately through Race Roster and is approximately $60.
